The church stands on the ruins of the old Norman Cathedral (whose construction dates back to around the 11th century). It was built after the earthquake of 1693. The style is Sicilian baroque. Inside the Cathedral we find Vincenzo Bellini’s tomb a great Catania musician (1801 – 1835). It is very important to mention the chapel of Sant’Agata, that houses relics of the patron saint. This relics go out on February 4 on occasion of the Feast of Santa Agata, the third Christian holiday in the world.
